Simple Italian Apple Cake Recipe

Soft and tasty Simple Italian Apple Cake (one bowl)—torta a le mele, a moist dessert for breakfast or afternoon tea. The recipe includes creamy yoghurt, butter, fresh apples, and cinnamon.


– 3 large peeled (if desired) apples, cut into piece – 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour – 3 teaspoons (14 g) baking powder – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon – ¾ teaspoon (pinch) kosher salt – 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar – 1 cup plain whole milk yogurt – ½ cup (113 g) butter, melted and cooled – 2 large egg – ½ teaspoon (2 g) vanilla extract – Confectioner sugar for dusting


Prepare a 9.5-inch round baking pan with parchment paper or cooking spray. Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream sugar and eggs with an electric mixer in a large bowl until fluffy. Around 5-8 minutes.

Mix in yoghurt, butter, and vanilla. Combine with a fork or spatula (not an electric mixer) until smooth. Mix flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl.

Mix the dry ingredients with the wet. Stir gently to mix. Gently stir in apples. Put batter in pan. Bake 45 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.

If the cake top browns too much, tent it with foil in the last 10 minutes. Dust confectioner sugar on cooled cake. Add fresh whipped cream if desired. Enjoy!
