Sausage Broccoli Pasta Recipe

This easy and delicious Sausage Broccoli Pasta is family-friendly! The whole family loves perfectly cooked pasta with tender broccoli florets, browned sausage and parmigiano cheese!


– 2 cans (15 oz each) white beans (cannellini beans or great Northern beans), drained and rinsed – 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil – 1 onion, chopped – 1 small shallot, chopped – 2 large carrots, peeled and chopped – 2 celery stalks, chopped – 2 cloves garlic, minced – 1 teaspoon dried rosemary – 1 teaspoon dried thyme – ½ teaspoon dried oregano – 2 bay leave – 6 cups vegetable or chicken broth – 2 cups fresh spinach or kale, chopped – Salt and black pepper to taste – Red Pepper flakes for serving – Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)


Heat large saute pan on medium-high. Add olive oil. Add garlic and red pepper flakes when hot. Cook for 1 minute to flavour oil. Add Italian sausage and break it up while cooking.

Cook sausage until browned. Remove excess fat from banger. Leave some for sauce! Boil a 4-quart pot of water. Boil water, add 2 tablespoons salt (or to taste), and cook pasta to al dente (per package instructions).

Before draining, add broccoli florets in the last three minutes and reserve 1 cup of pasta water. Add pasta and broccoli to sausage skillet after draining.

 Add the fresh lemon zest, basil, and the pasta water that you saved. Toss everything together. Before you serve, add more cheese. Hot food! Enjoy your meal!
