Heart Thumbprint Cookies Recipe with Jam

Heart Thumbprint Cookies Recipe with Jam are buttery cookies that are very soft and taste like vanilla and almonds. The sweet bites are made even better with your favourite jam inside the cute heart shapes. 

Ingredient

– 2 cups all-purpose flour – ½ teaspoon salt – 1 cup unsalted butter, softened – ⅔ cup granulated sugar – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon almond extract – 2 large eggs, brought to room temperature – ½ cup raspberry or strawberry jam (for filling cookies)

Direction

Line cookie trays or baking sheets with parchment and preheat to 350 degrees. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream butter, sugar, and salt in a large bowl until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time on low speed until combined. 

Step 1

Mix vanilla and almond extracts on medium speed for 5 minutes until well combined. Mix flour into the mixture slowly until a dough forms. Scrape bowl sides with a rubber spatula. Make a semi-soft, sticky dough. 

Step 2

Cover the dough with plastic wrap in a bowl. Put in the fridge for 30 minutes. Oil your hands. Roll 24 balls from 24 even pieces of dough. Arrange the balls on the baking sheet, leaving 1½ inches between each row. 

Step 3

Grease your hands again and gently press your thumb or index finger into the dough diagonally to the left, then rotate to the right to make a heart shape. Put your favourite jam in the holes.

Bake the trays for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden around the edges. Cool the cookies on a rack and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Enjoy lovingly!
