Easy Italian Sausage and Peppers Skillet Recipe

This easy skillet meal goes well with crusty Italian bread, American-style hoagie rolls or sub rolls; Italian sausage sandwiches. Serve it over authentic polenta, one of my favourite winter recipes.


– 4 (4 ounce) links sweet Italian sausages (or sausage of choice) – 2 tablespoons olive oil – 1 yellow onion, sliced – 4 cloves garlic, minced – 1 large red bell pepper, sliced – 1 orange bell pepper, sliced – 1 ½ teaspoons fresh thyme, finely chopped (1 teaspoon dried thyme) – 1 ½ teaspoons fresh oregano, finely chopped (1 teaspoon dried oregano) – ¼ cup white wine – 1 ½ teaspoons fresh basil for garnish


Brown the sausage on all sides in a large skillet over medium heat. Remove from skillet, cool 5 minutes, and slice to desired thickness.

Olive oil skillet. Onion and garlic cook 2–3 minutes. Stir in bell peppers. Season with thyme and oregano. Add white wine. Cook and stir peppers and onions for 5-6 minutes until tender but still crunchy.

Put the sausage slices back in the pan with the peppers and onions. Turn down the heat, cover and let it cook for 15 minutes, or until the sausage is fully heated through.
