Apple Cider Donuts Recipe

DIY apple cider donuts! This simple brown butter, apple butter, and apple pie spice cider donut recipe is the best. Sugar-coated and fried, it's cakey but donuty and tasty. 

Apple Pie Spice – 1 tablespoon cinnamon – 1 teaspoon nutmeg – 1 teaspoon allspice Donut Dough – 6tablespoons or 85g unsalted butter – ½cup or 140g apple butter – ½cup or 115g sour cream – 2 large egg – 2 tablespoons boiled or reduced cider* see ingredient notes above – 1 tsp pure vanilla extract – 3/4 tsp fine sea salt – ¼cup or 50g granulated sugar – ½cup or 105g brown sugar – 2 teaspoons apple pie spice from above – 1 tsp baking soda – 2 teaspoons baking powder – 450g or 3 ½ cups all purpose flour – Canola or vegetable oil for frying – granulated sugar for coating

INSTRUCTION

Pan-fry butter on low to medium. Sputter and bubble until bottom browns after melting. Keep stirring as it browns to avoid black bits. Transfer to heatproof bowl.

STEP  1 .

Mix cooled brown butter, apple butter, sugars, sour cream, eggs, salt, boiled or reduced cider, apple pie spice, and vanilla. Whisk flour, baking powder, and soda separately.

STEP 2.

Mix dry and wet ingredients into a thick dough. Grease a cookie sheet and place parchment. Thinly coat it with flour. Spread donut dough on parchment in a half-

STEP 3.

inch layer with floured hands or a roller. Put another parchment sheet on top after flouring to smooth. Chill 30 minutes or an hour in the freezer or fridge.

STEP 4.

Mix 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 tsp apple pie spice. Fill a large, deep skillet with 2-3 inches of oil. Over medium-high heat, keep a thermometer and paper-towel-lined cookie sheet nearby.

STEP 5.

Cutting-edge donuts. Roll dough again for donuts. Gooey flour dough. Fry donuts at 360 F. Only cook four because they cook fast. After 2-3 minutes of bottom browning, flip and cook.

STEP 6.

Brown, strain with a spider strainer, and drain on paper towels. While hot but manageable, coat both sides in sugar.

STEP 7.

Stick sugar to the donut before the oil cools. Donuts keep well in an airtight container at room temperature.
